First Edition

Description

A scarce copy of the Warren Commission Report, signed by committee chairman and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Earl Warren. Octavo, xxiv, 888pp. Blue cloth, title in gilt on spine, presidential seal in gilt on front panel. Light shelf wear to cloth, toning to spine cloth. Red pen mark on front end paper. Inscribed by Chief Justice Earl Warren on the title page: “Best wishes of Earl Warren. 10/10/64.”

Comments: Shortly after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, President Johnson asked Warren to serve on the commission tasked with investigating his death. The commission served from December 1963 until October 1964, with the publication of this report. Mr. Warren advocated for more transparency in the final analysis but was rebuffed due to ongoing secret government actions. As a result, the lone-gunman conclusion of the Warren Commission report was met with public skepticism.
