Inscribed by the author, Eugene Field, on the front free endpaper, dated: “January 9th, 1894”.
The first edition of Second Book of Verse is predated by the limited edition, published in 1892 by Melville E. Stone. Eugene Field (1850-1895) was an author of children’s poetry and humorous essays, as well as a journalist. Field’s most notable works include: “Wunken, Blynken, and Nod,” “The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat,” and “Little Boy Blue.”
