Ohio Senator John Glenn decided to run for the Democratic nomination in the 1984 presidential election. He considered himself a centrist candidate, and after Ted Kennedy announced that he would not run, Glenn thought he had a chance. His campaign decided to skip the traditional early primaries and focus on a nationwide strategy. After losing in Iowa and New Hampshire, he announced his withdrawal from the campaign. He would go on to support Vice President Walter Mondale.
