Description

Signed readers’ edition of Simple Speaks His Mind by Langston Hughes.

Octavo, [8], 231pp, [1]. Paperback, pink with yellow banner across top and bottom, title in green on spine. Stated “Simon and Schuster Readers’ Edition” on front cover. Front hinge starting to separate but binding is stable. Faint toning to pages, light rubbing and soiling to corners, a very good example. Signed by author on half-title.

Langston Hughes (1901-1967) was an American poet, writer and activist. He wrote in a style of poetry known as “jazz poetry,” in which the poem seems improvised, similar to jazz music. Hughes’ work is one of the defining facets of the Harlem Renaissance, a time in which he said “the Negro was in vogue.”
