Octavo, xxii, [2], 193pp, [1p ad]. Publisher’s blue cloth, title in gilt on spine. Top edge gilt. Stated “Published November, 1907” on copyright page. Solid text block, a touch of wear to edges, a near fine example. In the original acetate jacket, two short closed tears along top/bottom edges, some shelf wear. Numeric label affixed to front pastedown. Inscribed by the author on the front flyleaf, with a paraphrased quote from the book found on page 51.
Mahan writes: “The great danger of the indiscriminating advocacy of arbitration is that it may lead men to tamper with conscience, soothing it with the belief that War is so entirely wrong that beside it no other tolerated evil is wrong. / A. T. Mahan / May 14, 1909.”
