Kurt Diemberger is an Austrian mountaineer, filmmaker, and author renowned for his pioneering climbs and contributions to high-altitude exploration. Diemberger is one of the few climbers to have successfully made first ascents of two of the world’s fourteen 8,000-meter peaks: Broad Peak in 1957 and Dhaulagiri in 1960. Diemberger’s partnership with climbing legends like Hermann Buhl, along with his remarkable survival of the tragic 1986 K2 expedition-where he lost his climbing partner Julie Tullis-cemented his status as an iconic figure in the mountaineering world.
