Octavo, [8], 311pp, [1], 32pp advertisements. Full red morocco, title in gilt over blue leather label, raised bands with decorative gilt compartments on spine. All gilt leaf ends, marbled endpapers, decorative gilt turn-ins and board edges. Publisher’s original red cloth covers bound in at rear. Includes half-title, advertisements dated March, 1893. Previous owner’s bookplate affixed to front free endpaper. This copy was bound by Bayntun-Riviere of Bath, England. (BAL 3436) (McBride 158) A fine example.
The first American edition of The £1,000,000 Bank-Note was published by Charles L. Webster of New York and advertised as early as April 15th, 1893. Two weeks later, this first English edition was published on April 28th.
