Octavo, lxv, [15]-704pp. Quarter brown leather, marbled boards, title in gilt on spine. Marbled endpapers. This work is complete with six steel engraved portraits, and six maps (three fold-out). Occasional light foxing throughout, light toning to plates. Maps with strong hinges, free of foxing. Frontispiece portrait with light toning.

Stanley F. Horn (1889-1980) was an American historian, author, and editor known for his work on Southern and Civil War history. Born in Tennessee, Horn developed an early interest in history, which led him to write extensively about the Confederacy and the South. He served as editor of the Southern Lumberman magazine for over 40 years and was also the Tennessee State Historian. Among his notable books are The Hermitage: Home of Old Hickory, Invisible Empire: The Story of the Ku Klux Klan, and The Army of Tennessee, which reflected his deep knowledge of Southern culture and military history.
