Comments: The Carreta is the first of Traven’s six-volume Mahogany (Jungle) Series, detailing the Mexican revolution of 1910. It was first published in Germany in 1931 as Der Karren. Due to its success, Traven quickly appeared on the Nazi blacklist of “undesirable authors.” This novel, along with Government and White Rose was ordered to be confiscated from the public. The first English language edition (this edition), was published in 1935 in London.
