Complete with thirteen full page illustrations, one foldout and frontispiece portrait. Clean text, appears largely unread. In publisher’s scarce dust jacket, toning to spine, otherwise fine. (Eicher, 512) (Nevins I, 103) An excellent example.

Comments: Colonel Hans Christian Heg was an officer from the 15th Wisconsin Infantry Division who fell at the battle of Chickamauga. From Eicher, this work presents a biographical account of the military career of Colonel Heg through 230 letters to his wife, daughter and others in Milwaukee. The letters span a period from 1862 – 1863. It highlights the contributions of Norwegian-American soldiers during the war, detailed accounts of battles and the incompetence of some volunteer officers.
