Folio, [two volumes], x, [2], 632pp; v, 655pp. Half green calf, raised bands, gilt title on spine. Marbled endpapers with all gilt leaf ends. Housed in black slipcase. Complete with 40 plates, all with tissue covers, intermittent foxing to plates. Light wear at edges. Royal coat of arms bookplate on front endpaper of both volumes.
Signed on front free endpaper by Edward VII for Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein. Inscription reads: “For Christian, from his affect, Brother in law. Albert Edward. Xmas – 1899.”
Edward VII (1841-1910) was the eldest son of Queen Victoria and reigned as King from 1901-1910. The recipient of this book, Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein, married Edward’s younger sister, Princess Helena.
