Largo octavo, two volumes, x,[2], 632pp (Volume I), v, 655pp (Volume 2). Green half calf, raised bands, gilt title on spine. Marbled endpapers with all gilt leaf ends. Housed in black slipcase. Numerous full page illustrations, tissue covered. Intermittent foxing, not affecting text or images. Light wear at edges. Previous owners bookplate affixed to front endpaper.
Signed on front free endpaper by Edward VII for Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein. The inscription reads: “For Christian, from his affect, Brother in law. Albert Edward. Xmas – 1899.”
Edward VII (1841-1910) was the eldest son of Queen Victoria and reigned as King from 1901-1910. The recipient of this book, Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein, married Edward’s younger sister, Princess Helena.
