Nicholas Culpepper (1616-1654) cataloged hundreds of medicinal herbs throughout his life as a botanist, physician, and astrologer. He combined these three fields to advance his medicinal practice, writing both this piece and Astrological Judgement of Diseases from the Decumbiture of the Sick (1655). Culpepper’s discoveries were so impactful that some species he cataloged were taken from England to the New World.
