First edition, early issue of The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. Octavo, 754pp. Maroon cloth, title in gilt on spine and front cover. No additional printings mentioned on copyright page, but lacking the “first edition” statement. Previous ownership inscription on front free endpaper. In publishers second state dust jacket, $3.00 on front flap, authors photograph and three reviews, in near fine condition with just a touch of toning to top edge of spine. (Perinn A3b). This early edition is 1cm smaller than the first issue, likely due to wartime rationing in 1943.
