Octavo, xxi, 696pp. Full green morocco, title in gilt, decorative gilt bands. Marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. Stated “fourth printing” on copyright page. Ownership name on front cover in gilt. Binding by C.M. Ullman.

Carl A. Kroch was known as the “Baron of Books,” for taking a small family bookstore in Chicago and building it into one of the largest bookstore chains in the United States. His store was known as Kroch’s & Brentano’s. The binding for this copy was done by Charlotte M. Ullman, an accomplished and award-winning fine book binder, member of the New York Book Workers Guild, resident binder to the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York, and winner of a Ford Foundation Fellowship Grant to study bookbinding in France and England. Her report on those studies can be found in the Guild of Book Workers Journal, Volume II, Number 1, Fall 1963. She died in 1982.
