Octavo, [6], 619pp. [1]. Publisher’s gray cloth covers, illustrated end papers with “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Stated “first published in April 1939” on copyright page. Yellow top stain. Faint blemish to both covers from dust jacket previously attached with tape. Internally clean, free or marks or notations. In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, with “First Edition” and $2.75 retail price on front flap, archival Japanese tissue repair to reinforce hinge at spine, previous tape repair along spine, general soiling to covers, a very good example. Housed in custom blue leather clamshell, title in gilt on spine.
