Octavo, 114pp, [2]. Marbled hardcover, spine in black cloth, title stamped in gilt. Black endpapers. Complete with nine illustrations by Alexander King. Numerous unopened leaves. Housed in the publisher’s slipcase, title on label affixed to the side panel, top board replaced, shelf wear and chipping to edges. In the publisher’s dust jacket, shallow chipping at head and heel of the spine, a near fine example.

From a limited edition of 750 copies, signed by Eugene O’Neill, this being number 298.

Eugene O’Neill was an American playwright and Nobel laureate in literature. He is best remembered for his play Long Day’s Journey into Night, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1957. In the 1920s, O’Neill won the Pulitzer Prize three times, in 1920 for Beyond the Horizon, in 1922 for Anna Christie, and in 1928 for Strange Interlude. His other works include The Emperor Jones, Desire Under the Elms, Mourning Becomes Electra, and Ah, Wilderness! One of his best works, The Iceman Cometh, was produced in 1946. O’Neill died in 1953.
