Finely bound set of The History of the Anglo-Saxons by Sharon Turner.

Octavo, [three volumes], xxiv, 517pp; xii, 506pp; xv, 583pp. Full yellow morocco, double gilt-ruled covers. Five bands, title in gilt on red morocco label affixed to spine. Marbled edges and endpapers. Stated “Seventh Edition” on title page. Solid text blocks, wear to joints and corners. Internally fine. All three volumes with bookplate affixed to front endpaper.

Sharon Turner’s (1768-1847) writing on the history of Anglo-Saxons changed the historiography for the field over the following decades. His research through the British Museum and archives of Sir Robert Cotton to support his ideology that the freedoms of Anglo-Saxon as opposed to the negative aspects of feudalism.
