Octavo, 32pp. Green cloth, title stamped in gilt. All edges gilt. Light wear to spine, soiling to back panel. The bronze medal included with this book was sculpted by Janet Scudder (1869-1940). From a limited edition of 918 copies of this book and proof medal, this being number 170, with the signature of Indiana Governor Samuel M. Ralston on the limitation page.
Samuel M. Ralston (1857-1925) was the 28th Governor of Indiana, serving from 1913 to 1917. Ralston, a member of the Democratic Party, was elected governor after a successful campaign that focused on progressive reforms, including improvements in labor laws, education, and infrastructure. During his tenure, he advocated for the establishment of the Indiana State Highway Commission and supported women’s suffrage. After serving as governor, he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1922, where he served until his death on October 14, 1925.
