Small octavo, [2], 142pp. Original brown leather, title in gilt over red leather spine label, gilt-ruled bands. No additional printings listed. Solid text block, light wear to joints. Small chip at bottom of spine. Toning to endpapers and text, occasional foxing. Previous ownership inscription in pencil on front flyleaf. Housed in a brown cloth chemise and slipcase, title in gilt on brown morocco spine. (American Imprints 30520) (Sabin 39032)
The title page claims this book to be “The first book ever stereotyped in America.” This is untrue, however, due to a printing of the Bible by the Philadelphia Bible Society with plates imported from London in 1812.
