Quarter brown morocco, title in gilt on spine over red label, raised bands with decorative embossments, marbled boards. Marbled end papers with reinforced hinge, secured with Japanese tissue paper. Frontispiece portrait of Jefferson Davis with tissue paper. Intermittent foxing throughout, damp stain affecting top of text block of first five leaves. Complete with 23 illustrations, including frontispiece portrait. (Howes P455). A good example of Edward A. Pollard’s most important and best known work on the Civil War.
