Rose Mary Woods (1917-2005) was the personal secretary for President Richard Nixon from his time in Congress through his presidency. She emerged on the national stage during the Watergate scandal when gaps were discovered in the White House tapes. She demonstrated how an erasure like this could happen by stretching from one side of her desk to another. This maneuver became known as the “Rose Mary Stretch” and was met with skepticism. After his resignation, she followed President Nixon to California but returned to Washington to work on Capitol Hill. She passed away in 2005 and a memorial service was held at the Nixon Presidential Library.
