William Bartholomay (1928-2020) was the former owner and Chairman of the Atlanta Braves. He worked with Jimmy Carter to bring the 1996 Summer Olympics to Atlanta. In the 1960s Bartholomay purchased the Milwaukee Braves, with the intention of moving them to Atlanta. The Atlanta Braves were the first MLB team in the Deep South, but it was a controversial move. In 1976, Bartholomay was approached by Ted Turner to sell his controlling interest in the team. Turner wished to broadcast the games on his Turner Broadcasting Network, making the Braves a household team across the nation.
