Paul C. Broun Sr. (1916-2005) was a lifelong Democrat who served with President Carter in the Georgia State Senate. Senator Broun served for thirty-eight years in the Georgia senate. His son, Paul Broun, Jr. is a physician who started a practice in Americas, Georgia in the mid-1970s. While President Carter was in office, he took over the care of the president’s brother, Billy Carter. He made national headlines when he assisted Billy Carter into an alcohol treatment facility, all the while consulting with President Carter on his care.
