The Union Commanders of the Civil War, the advertising card from Travelers Insurance Company of Hartford, Conn, published in 1884.
Thick card stock, measures 4.25″ x 6.5″. Gelatin silver print on card stock, similar to a cabinet card. The doctored montage includes President Abraham Lincoln surrounded by the following military leaders: Admiral David G. Farrugut, General William T. Sherman, General George Henry Thomas, General George Gordon Meade, General Ulysses S. Grant, General Joseph Hooker, General Philip Henry Sheridan, and General Winfield Scott Hancock. On verso, stamp of “J.L. Hanna / City Agent / 242 Montgomery St., S.F.”
A large format photograph, measuring 20.75″ x 16.24″ was also produced and is exceedingly rare.
