From the Limited Editions Club, an illustrated six volume set of Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace, signed by the artist, Barnett Freedman.

Octavo, [six volumes] xvii, 261pp, vii, 296pp, vii, 260pp, viii, 302pp, vi, 282pp, vii, 277pp. Illustrated with lithographs and drawings by Barnett Freedman. Translated by Louise and Aylmer Maude with a special introduction for this edition by Aylmer Maude. Red linen cloth covers illustrated with characters from the novel, housed in two slipcases. Solid, clean text blocks. Light shelf wear to covers. Minimal sunning to spines. Numerous full-page color lithographs and black and white drawings, illustrated endpapers, and cover designs.

From a limited number of 1500 copies signed by the artist, Barnett Freedman, with his thumbprint in red ink on the colophon. This set is numbered 592. In the publisher’s original two slipcases, labels attached. Light sunning, bump to rear corner of first slipcase, minor shelfwear. Both solid. Includes the Monthly Letters of The Limited Editions Club (No. 111), from August, 1938 and (No. 113) from October of the same year.

An attractive and scarce set in near fine condition.
