On August 6, 1966, Luci Baines Johnson, the daughter of President Lyndon B. Johnson, married Patrick John Nugent. The wedding took place at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., in front of 700 guests and a large television audience. Johnson and Nugent went on to have four children, but the marriage was annulled in 1979.
