President Jimmy Carter visited Miami Beach on Thursday, October 26th, 1978, for a fundraiser for Bob Graham, the democratic nominee for Florida Governor. Graham entered the race in 1977 with little name recognition, competing with six other democrats for the nomination. He won the democratic primary, and with the fundraising help of President Jimmy Carter, Graham won the election as the 38th Governor of Florida. Graham went on to serve as the United States Senator from Florida from 1987-2005.
