Octavo, 327pp. Red cloth, title stamped in blue. The second printing, with “Reprinted, November, 1943” on copyright page. Faint tide mark on front cover, no impact to text block. General soiling to covers, internally clean. In the publisher’s dust jacket, $2.50 on front flap, light sunning to spine, chipping to top edge of spine, bright illustrations.

This copy is signed by Anna Louise Strong, with “Chicago, 1946” after her signature.

Anna Louise Strong (1885-1970) was an American author and activist, known her for support of communist movements in the Soviet Union and China. She was one of the only westerners to “gain the admiration of Mao Tse-tung,” and spent her final years in China covering the communist administration. During her career she wrote over 30 books and wrote articles for The Atlantic Monthly, Harper’s and The Nation. She died in China in 1970.
