Small octavo, xi, [1], 126pp, [2]. Original blue cloth binding, title in green on white cloth spine. Top edge gilt. Matching dates printed on title and copyright pages, no additional printings listed. Solid text block, small bumps to corners, light wear along edges, a near fine example. In the publisher’s matching dust jacket, chipped corners and edges of spine, some sunning to spine, with shelf wear.
Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: “Mrs. H.O. Billings, With Eugene Field’s love. Dec. 20th, 1892.”
Eugene Field (1850-1895) was an author of children’s poetry and humorous essays, as well as a journalist. Field’s most notable works include: “Wunken, Blynken, and Nod,” “The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat,” and “Little Boy Blue.”
