Octavo, x, 197pp. Full black cloth, title in gilt on spine. Number line present through “13” on copyright page, indicating thirteenth printing. Solid text block, fine. In the publisher’s dust jacket, price-clipped, a few chips to head and tail of spine, shelf wear, a very good example. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: “With best regards, Ida M. Cullen (Countee).” Includes a handwritten letter from the author’s wife written on Countee Cullen Foundation stationery. Letter reads: “Dear Friends – Please forgive the long delay in getting this book to you – So many things have happened – But just know how glad I am at last to get it off – My very best to you both and your lovely family – and it was indeed a pleasure meeting you in New Orleans. Sincerely Ida M. Cullen. / P.S. The Foundation is a long dream – am working very hard on it now.”
