The first edition of My Three Years with Eisenhower by his Naval Aide, Captain Harry C. Butcher. This copy is from the private library of Major General Ernest N. Harmon, one of the most decorated armored division commanders during World War II.

Octavo, xvi, [16], 911pp, [1]. Blue cloth, title stamped in gilt over red print on spine. No additional printings noted. Top edge dyed red. Illustrated endpapers with maps of European Theatre. Includes the publisher’s dust jacket, $5.00 on front flap, a few archival tape repairs to verso, bright illustrations, a near fine example.

This copy is signed by on the half-title: “Ernest N. Harmon / Major General, U.S.A.”

Major General Ernest N. Harmon (1894-1979) served in both World Wars, initially gaining experience in World War I with the U.S. Cavalry. During World War II, Harmon commanded the 1st Armored Division in North Africa and Italy, notably leading his troops during the critical Battle of Kasserine Pass. He later took command of the 2nd Armored Division, playing a key role in the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. Harmon’s strategic prowess and leadership earned him numerous military honors, and he retired as a major general in 1948.
