Octavo, xiii, [2], 238pp. Red and white spotted cloth, title in gilt on spine. Black topstain. No additional printings listed on copyright page. Solid text block, faint foxing along edges, a near fine example. In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $2.00 retail price on front flap, a few short closed tears, some shelf wear, a very good example. Complete with 17 illustrations, including a frontispiece. The first edition of this work was issued with large and small white dot cloth binding, no priority established. (Cagle & Stafford, 689)

Natalie Vivian Scott (1890-1957) was a New Orleans journalist, writer, and cultural figure best known as the editor and compiler of “200 Years of New Orleans Cooking” (1931), one of the earliest comprehensive efforts to preserve and present the city’s culinary traditions. A graduate of Tulane University, she worked as a newspaperwoman, travel writer, and essayist, and was active in promoting the arts and cultural heritage of Louisiana.
