Top edge dyed red. Blue illustrated endpapers. In publisher’s original paper dust jacket, all with some wear. All volumes fine, except Volume I, which has some spotting to the cloth and dust jacket. Housed in publishers original wood shipping crate, address label affixed to top edge, covers still nailed down. (Nevins I, 30pp). Volumes include Manassas to Malvern Hill (Volume I), Cedar Mountain to Chancellorsville (Volume II), Gettysburg to Appomattox Part I (Volume III), and Gettysburg to Appomattox Part II (Volume IV). Comments: Douglas Southhall Freeman (1886 – 1953) was a Pulitzer prize winning historian. He is considered one finest American historical writers and his works make him one of the leading historians of his day. He won the Pulitzer Prize for his four-volume biography of Robert E. Lee (1934). He considered this work, Lee’s Lieutenants: A Study In Command, to be his finest work. His last work, George Washington, was published posthumously and he won the Pulitzer Prize in 1958.
