Octavo, xi, [blank], 211pp. Publisher’s black cloth, gilt title on spine. 16 pages of black and white illustrations. Stated “first edition” on copyright page, with “F-M” noting publication in August 1962. Publisher’s first issue dust jacket, with $3.95 price on front flap and “0862” code at bottom, some chipping at edges, faint sunning to spine, a very good example. Signed on front free endpaper by Robert Kennedy with the following inscription: “For Walter / With Warmest Regards / Robert Kennedy.”
The recipient of this book, J. Walter Yeagley (1909-1990), served on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals from 1970-1984. Before his appointment to the Court of Appeals, he was Assistant Attorney General and director of the Internal Security Division of the Justice Department. In this position, his work focused on citizens with suspected Communist affiliations, working closely with FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover. Judge Yeagley died in 1990.
