E.M. Forster (1879-1970) was a famous English writer nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature over 20 separate years of his career. Maurice was written from 1913-1914, but was not published until 1971 due to Forster’s fear of public reception to its theme of homosexuality while still illegal in the U.K.
