Octavo, 346pp. Red cloth, gray cloth band with title stamped in blue on front cover and spine. Stated “first edition” on copyright page. Light toning to top edge of text block, a near fine example. In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $2.75 on front flap, light sunning to spine, faint soiling to spine, a very good example. Inscribed on the front endpaper: “To Helen Heissler – With best wishes for getting through this. Paul W. Gallico.”
Paul Gallico (1897-1976) was an American sportswriter and novelist. He began as a sportswriter for the New York Daily News, eventually retiring to become a novelist. He published over 40 books during his lifetime, many were adapted into films. His noted works include The Snow Goose: A Story of Dunkirk (1940) and The Poseidon Adventure (1969).
