The 5th United States Congress met in Congress Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from May 15, 1797 until March 3, 1799. This congressional session took place during the first two years of the John Adams presidency. Laws passed during this congressional session include the Alien and Sedition Acts, establishment of the Marine Corps and the Navy, and acts to regulate “Trade and Commerce with the Indian Tribes.”
