Octavo, [x], 355pp. Black cloth, gold paper label on cover and spine. Scribner’s Seal on copyright page, with no legal disclaimer on page [x]. Previous ownership inscription on front free endpaper in pencil, small ownership label on rear paste down. Faint wear to cloth at tips of spine. Lean to text block. Both gold labels exceptionally bright. Clean text throughout.

In the publisher’s restored first state dust jacket, $2.50 on front flap, misspelling of “Katharine Barclay” on front flap blurb, color restoration to spine, reinforced hinges, top edge rebuilt at spine, bright colors on front panel.

Dust jacket designed by American artist and illustrator, Cleo Theodora Damianakes, who created cover art for many dust jackets of the era. These include Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises, Conrad Aiken’s Blue Voyage, and F. Scott Fitgerald’s All the Sad Young Men.
