Stated “Volume I reprinted 1960” on the copyright page, with Volume II published in 1957, being the first impression of the new edition. Both volumes appear unread. Bookseller’s stamp on front free endpaper. Both in the publisher’s scarce dust jackets, light wear to both, faint soiling to jackets, retail sticker over original retail price on both front flaps. Includes a large fold-out map of Rajast’han in Volume I and two fold-out tables at the rear of Volume II.
Annals and Antiquities of Rajast’han by James Tod was first published in two volumes in 1829 and 1832, by Smith, Elder, and Co. of London. Based on his experiences as the East India Company’s political agent in western Rajputana, Tod compiled legends, genealogies, and historical traditions of the Rajput states. This work offered one of the earliest comprehensive English-language accounts of Rajast’han’s history, society, and culture.
