A first edition of the scarce Appendix to the Narrative of the Second Voyage in Search of the Northwest Passage. Quarto, xii, [1], 120pp, cxliv, cii appendix, [1]. Full leather, raised bands and gilt title on spine with decorative compartments, some loss at top edge of spine, contemporary binding. Green end papers. Complete with twenty illustrations, ten of which are hand colored. Frontispiece portrait of Sir John Ross. Overall clean text and a stable text block. (Arctic Bibliography 14866) (Sabin 73384). The appendix was printed in fewer numbers than the full narrative and is a scarce text in complete form. Contains additional accounts of the native populations of the arctic region and samples of their language.

Comments: John Ross (1777-1856) was a British naval officer and arctic explorer. This important work recounts the voyage of John Ross to Arctic and discovery of the Magnetic North Pole.
