Octavo, [1], 280pp. Black and pink hardcover, title in pink and white on spine. No additional printings listed on copyright page. Solid text block, slight toning to endpapers, bumped edges, foxing to fore edge and covers, a very good example. Inscribed by the author on front free endpaper: “for the whole Rosenthal family / with love from your neighbor – / patrick dennis.”

Edward Everett Tanner III (1921-1976), also known by his pseudonym Patrick Dennis, was an American author known most prominently for this book. Auntie Mame was adapted into a stage play in 1956, a film in 1958, a musical in 1966, and a film version of the musical in 1974. Rabbi Henry M. Rosenthal and his family lived in an apartment complex on Madison Avenue, all working as writers. Dennis and his wife were close with the family and helped Rosenthal’s daughters work in publishing.
