    Admiral Stansfield Turner (1923-2018) served as the Director of the CIA during the Carter Administration. He was nominated in 1977 by President Jimmy Carter to succeed George H.W. Bush in the post. Prior to his post at the CIA, Turner was the President of the Naval War College (1972-1974), commander of the US Second Fleet (1974-1975), and Supreme Allied Commander NATO Southern Europe (1975-1977). He died in 2018.
