The first edition of Corregidor: The Rock Force Assault, 1945, inscribed by Lt. Gen. E.M. Flanagan and 10 other surviving members of the battle, to the commander of “Rock Force,” Brig. General George M. Jones.

Octavo, xv, [1], 331pp. Black hardcover, title stamped in gilt on the spine. Light dust along top edge of the text block, internally clean. In the publisher’s dust jacket, $18.95 on the front flap, two closed tears along front cover, bright illustrations.

This copy is inscribed to the commander of “Rock Force,” who liberated Corregidor Island in February, 1945. Inscription reads: “For General George Jones – Rock Force 6 – Without whom this book could never have been written. Warmest best wishes. Fly Flanagan / Lt. Gen. USA (Ret-d).” Additionally signed by 10 members of the assault force.

Gen. George M. Jones (1911-1995) was a U.S. Army officer best known for his leadership during World War II as the commander of the 503rd Parachute Regimental Combat Team. Jones was the architect and field commander of the mission to retake Corregidor in February of 1945, a coordinated parachute drop and amphibious assault to retake the island. The island had fallen to the Japanese in 1942, under the command of General Jonathan Wainwright.
