Octavo, xiv, [2], 559pp. Publisher’s tan cloth, title printed on spine. Stated “first edition” on copyright page, noting that it follows the limited edition, which was published the same year. Illustrated endpapers. Solid text block, internally clean, a near fine example. In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $5.00 on the front flap, previously affixed to a dust jacket protector with offsetting to flaps, bright illustrations, a very good example.
Gift inscription above Eisenhower signature, dated “Christmas, 1948.” Signed on the half-title: “For James R. Golden / with best wishes from / Dwight D. Eisenhower.”
From the estate of James R. Golden (1920-2011), a decorated World War II veteran, and recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. He worked on Capitol Hill after the war and later as a lobbyist for Ford Motor Company.
