Comments: General Lucius D. Clay (1898 – 1978) was a senior United States army officer, known for this administration of the occupied areas of Germany after World War II. Clay orchestrated the 1948 Berlin Airlift after the Soviet blockade of West Berlin. During WWII he was the deputy to General Dwight D. Eisenhower, with the two remaining close for years to come. Clay was influential in convincing Eisenhower to seek the Republican nomination in 1952 and remained a close advisor throughout his administration.
