Octavo, 362pp. Green cloth, title in gilt on spine. First printing, with “September, 1913” and Scribner’s Seal on copyright page. Solid text block, light foxing to endpapers, top edge gilt.

Signed on the second free endpaper: “For Constance Gardner, With dearest love of her affectionate grandfather, H.C. Lodge. Oct. 17th, 1913.”

Henry Cabot Lodge, Sr. (1850-1924) was a conservative politician from Massachusetts. He served in the United States Senate from 1893 until his death in 1924. He was Senate Majority Leader from 1918-1924, often challenging the Wilson Administration and leading the opposition to the Treaty of Versailles.
