Signed first edition of Fidel Castro: Rebel-Liberator or Dictator? by Jules Dubois, inscribed to fellow Latin American correspondent Jay Mallin.

Octavo, 391pp. Black cloth spine, red cloth boards. Title in white on spine. Stated “First Edition” on copyright page. Slight bow to covers, solid text block. Light wear to corners, faint foxing and transference to endpapers. Frontispiece portrait of Fidel Castro, with reproduction of letter from Castro to the author. Eight leaves of photos at center of text. In the publisher’s dust jacket, price-clipped, light wear to corners and flap folds, sunning to spine, some shelf wear. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper “To Jay Mallin who never doubted the end that was to befall the dictator and whose risks were as heroic as those who carried firearms. With warm regards and best wishes. Jules Dubois La Habana May 6, 1959.”

Jay Mallin, the recipient of this copy, was a correspondent on Cuban and Latin American affairs for multiple publications throughout his career, including Time magazine and The Washington Times. Jules Dubois, the author, worked as a correspondent for the Chicago Tribune. He visited Cuba on numerous occasions and received the first interview with Castro after he defeated Fulgencio Batista.
