    Octavo, [5], 314pp. Brown cloth, title in gilt. Clean text throughout. Faint offsetting on front free endpaper due to dust jacket. In the publisher’s dust jacket, $3.00 on front flap, toning to spine, chipping along top edge with some loss at the spine. Signed on the front free endpaper: “To Bena Martin, With a lot of love, Skinny Wainwright. Xmas, 1951.”

    General Jonathan M. Wainwright (1883-1953) was the Commander of Allied Forces in the Philippines at the time of their surrender to Japan in the early days of World War II. Upon the surrender of the Philippines and Corregidor, Wainwright became the highest ranking American prisoner of war. He would be released in August of 1945. He would receive the Medal of Honor and return to the United States with a ticker-tape parade in New York City.
