Octavo, [four volumes], xvii, 421pp; xvi, 491pp; xviii, 683pp; xix, 603pp. Bound in cloth (Volumes I-III), hardcover with cloth spine (Volume IV). Stated “first published” on copyright page, with corresponding first printing designation in each volume. All volumes in near fine condition, faint foxing to outer text block of Volume IV, black ink mark along lower edge of text block in Volume I, all solid text blocks. All with the publisher’s first state dust jackets, retail prices on front flap, light shelf wear to all, two volumes with small archival tape repairs to verso, an attractive, near fine set.

Signed in Volume I on the “George C. Marshal Research Foundation” dedication plate by Forrest C. Pogue and General Omar N. Bradley. Additional inscription by Pogue below the dedication plate.

Forrest C. Pogue (1912-1996) was an American historian known for his extensive work on military history and biography. During World War II, he served as a combat historian for the U.S. Army, conducting front-line interviews with soldiers and officers, which provided invaluable firsthand accounts of the war. Pogue later worked at the Office of the Chief of Military History and became director of the George C. Marshall Research Library. His most notable work is this four-volume biography of General George C. Marshall.
