Inscribed on the half title: “To Herb + Ann Thompson – with appreciation for their friendship and loyalty. Best Wishes. Spiro T. Agnew.” Includes numerous pencil notes by Mr. Thompson, both condemning and defending Agnew’s conduct. His notes include references campaign finance violations that were “clearly wrong! And Illegal” and the testimony of Alex Butterfield that “sunk the ship.” A unique look into the inner workings of downfall of Vice President Spiro Agnew.”

The recipient of this book, Herbert L. Thompson and his wife, Ann, met Spiro Agnew while he was governor of Maryland, serving as his principal staff assistant. When Agnew was elected vice president, Herb Thompson accompanied him to Washington as his press secretary and chief speech writer to the vice president. His wife, Ann, served as served press secretary to Second Lady Judy Agnew.
